Five Things Friday – #5

Nothing much to report this week. It’s still hot as balls and I’m really tired of feeling the sweat drip down my back in the middle of a gosh darn air-conditioned grocery store. It’s ridiculous, people. Whoever thought it was a good idea to settle down here in the middle of nowhere West Texas probably made the decision under the influence of heat exhaustion. I don’t know why I felt so much more at ease in the more humid climates like Houston. Maybe it was because I lived there before I gave birth and now have boobs that are slowly wanting to make friends with my feet. #underboobsweatisgross. With that image burned into your mind, let’s move on to Five Things Friday!

1. Saturday Farmers Market

We try to visit our local farmers market every Saturday morning if our schedule allows. It’s such a great way to get outside and socialize. We usually eat some good food while we sit and listen to local musicians, which the kiddo loves. If there’s live music, my kid will find it and stop and do his little dance. He’s a crowd pleaser for sure. Plus there’s some shade (which is really lacking in most places in this city) and also plenty of room to run.

2. Kerrygold Butter

You’ve probably seen it online already, but I’ve got to make sure you know that Kerrygold Irish butter is AMAZING. My husband didn’t believe me when I told him that he would like it better than regular butter. When he reluctantly tried it on his toast one day, he said we weren’t allowed to buy any other butter from then on. Believe me when I say that you will taste a difference with Kerrygold. The butter is brighter and richer than any other butter I’ve tried.

3. Safe2Save App

Rewards for safe driving? Heck yes. Basically, this smartphone app gives you rewards for driving if you stay off of your phone. This obviously should be the law everywhere by now but OMG Texas is so far behind. It seems like everyone texts and drives here. All you have to do is open the app before you start driving and it will give you points for every mile you travel. Those points applied towards coupons through local businesses like restaurants, services, and entertainment. You can still access your music and talk with a handsfree device, too. I’ve received a few coupons already, and my friend even used it on a couple road trips and earned a few months free membership to the YMCA! Give it a try!

4. Matte Nail Topcoat

I’m really loving this trend of matte nails right now. I’ve pretty much wasted all of my free time watching IG videos of nail art for the past month. The best matte top coat I’ve found is from OPI. Simply paint your nails the way you normally would and substitute this awesome matte polish for your normal top coat. Apply a couple coats to seal the deal and you’re golden. I’ve painted it over my first two nails in this pic because I also like the idea of having matte, gloss (pinky), glitter (thumb), and Jamberry (ring finger) all at the same time because who has time for boring nails?

5. Mustache Baby by Bridget Heos and Joy Ang

This book is one of the best baby books I have found. The story is adorable, about a baby boy born with a mustache and as he grows he waits to see if his mustache will turn into a good guy mustache or a bad guy mustache. The illustrations make it fun to follow. My toddler loves it, and I know he’ll love it even more when he gets bigger. Hubs and I are thoroughly entertained by it as well, especially if you do a “bad guy” voice when you read it to your kid.

  1. […] We finally left our gym and joined our local YMCA! I still have a paid-up membership with our previous gym that will last me for the rest of the year. But since the YMCA is my official sponsor for my Les Mills trainings, I needed to join pronto and start attending classes so I can get a feel for what is expected. It’s not a bad deal, considering we got our joining fee waived because we had a friend who “referred” us, and we won’t be paying the full YMCA membership price, thanks to the amount points I’ve racked up on the Safe2Save app (more on this from this Five Things Friday post).
