This is it, you guys. The day before I go get my Les Mills certification. It may not seem like that big of a deal to you, but for me, this is my dream. I've been wanting this for a really long time, and finally, after what felt like a hundred hurdles, my chance is here. This is where I can start to make a my mark in the fitness world. I can't wait to share what I learn, but for now, here's Five Things Friday!
1. Viral Colorwash Shampoo
My hair doesn't hold onto color very long, especially reds and purples, which happen to be my favorite hair colors. A friend suggested that I try some kind of color-depositing shampoo or conditioner to help lengthen my color in between visits to the salon. I found a colorwash called Viral and I have to say I've been pretty happy with the results (you can see the color in some of my Instagram stories).
Viral is a shampoo that cleanses your hair and also deposits color (in my case extreme purple) onto my hair. To use it, I simply put a small dollop into my hand and massage into my hair. The lather is very dark purple at first but you know it's working when the lather turns white, meaning all of the pigment has been absorbed. It's pretty neat, actually. Then I rinse (always with cool/lukewarm water instead of hot) and follow up with my Wella conditioner.
Even with my naturally darker hair, you can still see the purple pigment, especially when I'm in the sun. I kind of feel like a superhero in the sun 🙂
I have been a loyal subscriber to Any.do for over a year now. I've tried other to-do lists and task trackers but none of them come close to Any.do. I can create groups of lists, sublists, links, notes, reminders, etc, and the best part? Any.do now syncs with Amazon Echo. So if I add anything to my grocery list with Echo, it automatically gets added to my Any.do shopping list. I used to use the Amazon Echo app for my groceries but the interface is still too clunky for me. But Any.do does everything right. Pictured: my calendar/task view in Any.do. Yes, 20 overdue tasks. Don't judge.
3. Perfectly Posh Bare It All Citrus Burst Micellar Tonic
My skin has been taking a big hit lately with all of the stress leading up to my Les Mills certification and my daily extra sweaty workouts. When I want a super clean face with zero hassle, I use this citrus micellar tonic from Perfectly Posh. The citrus essential oils feel energizing and fresh, and it has helped my skin stay clean and moisturized until the next sweat sesh.
4. "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance" by Angela Duckworth
I'm really digging this book right now. It talks about people with a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit” and how they tend to succeed better than any other person. The science is starting to tell us: it's not who you are or what you know, it's all about your attitude and your refusal to give up. I'm about half way through and it's an awesome read so far.
5. Cotton Candy Grapes
If you haven't tried these grapes, you need to. They taste JUST like pink cotton candy. My son doesn't like grapes but he will devour these in a heartbeat. We purchase them at our local H-E-B market and I'm lucky if they last a few days in this house!
